Monthly Chapter Meeting: The Tipping Point: Elevating Role of BA To "Proxy" Data Scientist

Tuesday, September 27, 2022 -
7:00pm to 8:30pm

Event Overview

"Until a few years ago, technological limitations made it hard for most companies to generate insights from most of the data it produces. Businesses had to rely on traditional data warehouses not always suited to managing the high volumes of structured and unstructured data available to support better decision-making and optimization of customer-facing products, services, and features. However, recent advances in technology are not only creating more powerful capabilities to manage and analyze data, but also making them much more accessible to everyone with the help of open source initiatives and self-service tools.

As a result, in the current business environment using data to its full potential is much more about identifying and following through with high-value opportunities than it is about deploying technology. And that’s where business analysts in general and IT BAs in particular can find a big opening to elevate their roles within their organizations." -- The Critical Role BAs Can Play in Companies Using Advanced Analytics, The Modern Analyst blog

In this session, the Atlanta IIBA Chapter's VP of Professional Development (Jaleann McClurg) will bring her experience in the Data Analytics space to help you understand how you can leverage your current BA skills to 'find your place at the table' in this fast-growing area of the Business Analysis world.  A 2021t IIBA survey noted that BAs can make a huge difference in the success of data analytics projects by either (a) driving the analysis itself, and/or, (b) serve as a partner with business leaders and data science experts to ensure that a solid business case and outcomes are defined for the project.  If you are interested in raising your abilities -- and your stature within your company -- in this arena, this is the presentation for you.

Our speaker:  Jaleann McClurg is the current VP of Professional Development for the Atlanta Chapter of the IIBA.  Jaleann’s Mantra is 'Data Speaks! Are you Listening?'.  She is an accomplished KPIs metrician/scientist injecting passion to guide organizations through uncharted territory while enabling new capabilities.  She is an Enterprise Strategic BA/Data Scientist with over 10 yearss overseeing collaborative data driven projects.  She has experience in many industries, and has deep experience in the Medical/Healthcare industry.  In addition to her skills in the BA space, Jaleann also has deep experience in facilitation, project managemnt, Agile software development, and Lean 6 Sigma.
